Jason Roberts

Jason has been with up! 99.3 since March of 2011. Although born in Prince Albert, Jason considers Edmonton home. He moved here with his Dad in the early 80’s just in time to witness the greatest dynasty in NHL history. He was actually at the famously dubbed Game 4 ½ of the Stanley Cup Finals. Remember in 1988 when the lights went out in Boston in the middle of the 2nd period. Game 4 was replayed in Edmonton 2 nights later. Jason was there. It marked the last time Wayne Gretzky would dawn an Oiler jersey.

When he’s not watching the Oil, Jason is a proud father. He has 2 boys; a 3 year old named Lucas and a 7 month old named Isaac. Loosely translated Lucas means light and Isaac means laughter. Both seem to fit as Jason’s eyes lit up (and welled up) when Lucas was born in 2008. As for Isaac, he makes the family laugh everyday with his big beautiful smile. Such a happy baby – they are truly blessed.

The real brains behind the operation has to be Jason’s wife Kara. The 2 met while Jason was a gas jockey at the Londonderry Shell some 15 years ago. Kara was at the U of A studying to be a teacher. The 2 married in 2001. Jason says he’s only slept on the couch twice since then, but judging by his behavior at the office we question those stats.

More facts and figures;

  • Waxed his legs for the Wake Up Show’s Hot Legs contest. He lost.
  • Read all 4 Twilight Books.
  • Plays Beer League Hockey
  • Curls at Ellerslie Curling Club on Tuesday nights
  • Cheers for Oilers, Riders, Bears and Blue Jays.

Kari Skelton

Kari's no stranger to early mornings. A former pairs figure skater who hung up her skates in exchange for headphones, Kari enjoys working with Jason on the Wake Up! Show - except when he secretly records her belting out a little Paula Abdul. (there’s tape to prove it)

Born in Stony Mountain, Manitoba, Kari went to broadcasting college in Saskatoon before kicking off her career in Red Deer. Though she's filed her fair share of political, agricultural and crime stories as a news reporter and anchor, Kari fosters a guilty pleasure: entertainment gossip.

Kari's a lover of Edmonton's growing fashion scene. She’s the biggest fan of #14 (GO EBS!) She has a long list of favourite independent restaurants. There's a good chance you'll cross paths with Kari if you frequent our city's festivals. She makes a point of taking in the Fringe, Folk Fest, Western Canada Fashion Week and Ice on Whyte among others.

Kari supports a number of charities and in 2010 founded MoSistas of Edmonton as part of the Movember movement. She’s an auntie to Casey. She loves a chihuahua named Cheeka Bella. She's a Jeep girl. She snowboards. She loves hot yoga and often rewards her hard work with a vanilla cupcake and glass of wine. And believe it or not, her husband doesn't mind the alarm clock ringing at 3am - Kari's married to Breakfast Television host Ryan Jespersen. Between Ryan and Jason, Kari's got plenty of experience working to get a word in edgewise.
